Let us get the feedback from J P after he visits Mamdawa tomorrow. Much depends  upon the resort arrangements with packed programme as there is nothing to see in Manadawa other than haveli and spending together. Let us wait till J P gives the feedback  as he knows what enjoyment we will get from Mandawa staying for a day or two and at what cost..

Till then it is a matter of choice without detailed knowledge on Mandawa. Hence this voting to be avoided till feedback from JP.

Good night to all of you.

Very good plan Ashok. I think that it is the optimum one from duration and enjoyment points of view. I, for one, is OK for the same.

Let all of start voting for this so that the programme can be finalized at an early date and booking for Mandwa can be done in time for all.

Warm regards,

Ashok Bhow

Great job Ashok ! Tnx for the effort.

The suggested schedule seems most practical. Some variations will surely come as we go along, but overall one night at Pilani and two at the resort should be fine. We have time for detailing the logistics.

Chances are we'll have a larger gathering and there could be programmes for different interest groups.

I have seen the recent mails of Ramkumar, Alok Goyal, Vinod Poddar & Madhav Segal about their suggestions/opinions for our forthcoming re-union. I also have a few humble, clear & frank  suggestions for our proposed reunion in November 2016. Here they are :

DAY 1 :

(1) Let a luxury bus (capacity around 30 persons) start from Jaipur for Mandawa by 9.00 A.M. to reach Mandawa by 1.00 P.M. In addition, let another mini-bus/van (capacity 10-12 persons) also start from Jaipur for Mandawa a couple of hours later (say around 11.00 A.M.) to reach Mandawa by 3.00 P.M. (just in time for lunch).

(2) Similarly let a bus start from Delhi for Mandawa by 9.00 A.M. to reach Mandawa by 2.30 P.M. Those arriving at Delhi Airport by morning flight can be picked up from the airport for proceeding to Mandawa (without entering Delhi). In addition, let another mini-bus/van also start from Delhi for Mandawa by 11.00 A.M. to reach Mandawa by 4.30 P.M. The persons travelling by mini-bus/van from Delhi might have to stop on way for a quick lunch. Or they can carry packed lunch (e.g. Haldiram's) from Delhi.

(3) The buses would not be able to leave Jaipur/Delhi before 9.00 A.M. because most of our outstation friends would be arriving by flights/trains in the morning. Some of them might require some time (& perhaps a temporary accomodation also) for getting ready to travel further by bus. In case the buses are to leave earlier in the morning (say around 7.30 A.M.), our friends would have to reach Jaipur/Delhi a day earlier & stay overnight. I am sure

this proposal might not find favour with some of our friends. The arrangement for buses/vans would naturally depend on demand/response from our friends.

(4) The friends choosing to travel to Mandawa by cars (from Jaipur or Delhi) also must reach Mandawa by 2.30

P.M. Let them accomodate outstation friends in their cars, if possible. This has to be planned mutually between them & conveyed to the concerned outstation friends in advance.

(5) The buses/vans/cars to have plastic banners/stickers carrying our batch's identity (Deepak Manchand had named 2009 re-union as 'Jab We Met II'. He'll perhaps consult Ashok Singhal & name the forthcoming reunion as "Jab We Met V" or so. Lad might want to name this re-union again as ''Masti Ke Woh Paanch Saal, Yaad Kar Rahe Safed Baal'').

(6) The lunch hours at Mandawa be 1.30 P.M. to 4.00 P.M.

(7) The resort authorities be asked to ignore their normal check-in/check-out timings.

(8) The evening programme should start after 6.30 P.M. It can include introductions (Part I - around 30 couples,

each couple maximum 120 seconds), folk music/dances, cocktails & dinner.

(9) There can be group activities after dinner (e.g. cricket or cards or music/songs) till midnight or later. Those

opting to retire after tire-some/hectic journey and activities can have their way.

DAY - 2 :

(1) Breakfast 8.00 A.M. to 10.00 A.M.

(2) Local site-seeing & other activities (e.g. visit to old Havelis, Camel-ride, sand dunes oriented etc.) 10.00 A.M. to 12.30 P.M.

(3) Introductions (Part II - remaining couples, each couple maximum 120 seconds) & Music/songs with beer/soft drinks 12.30 P.M. to 2.00 P.M.

(4) Lunch 2.00 P.M. to 3.00 P.M.

(5) Evening programme at 6.30 P.M. should start with Professional Orchestra (if viable) & songs/performnaces, followed by our own songs/performances, cock-tails & dinner.

(6) Group activities like music/songs/cricket/cards etc. till midnight or later. Those wishing to retire are free.

DAY 3 :

(1) Breakfast : 7.00 A.M. to 8.00 A.M.

(2) Buses/cars leave Mandawa for Pilani by 8.30 A.M.

(3) Check in at B.I.T.S. Guest House at 10.30 A.M. Visit to B.I.T.S. at 11.00 A.M.

(4) Lunch in the mess at 1.30 P.M.

(5) Rest time till 3.30 P.M.

(6) Site seeing between 3.30 P.M. & 5.30 P.M.

(7) Evening programme at Central Auditorium from 6.30 P.M. to 9.00 P.M. The programme should include brief branch-wise introduction of each member (total 45 minutes), all speeches (15 minutes) & B.I.T.S. students' music items/ performnaces (45 minutes), followed by our music items/performances (45 minutes).

(8) Dinner at B.I.T.S. Guest house with invitation to limited B.I.T.S. Faculty to join.

(9) Group activities like music till midnight or later. Those wishing to retire are free.

DAY 4 :

(1) Breakfast 7.30 A.M. to 8.30 A.M.

(2) Buses/cars leave Pilani for Jaipur or Delhi at 9.00 A.M.

GENERAL :

(1) It is not fair to presume B.I.T.S. authorities would accept our programme without any modifications. Our friend J.P. Soni has a very important role to play here. He can take up this matter with B.I.T.S. Director & find out their convenience/comfort.

(2) It's possible some couples reaching Mandawa by bus from Jaipur might wish to leave Pilani for Delhi by bus. Similarly, some friends coming from Delhi by bus might wish to leave Pilani for Jaipur by bus. This arrangement for a limited number of people can be possible. Some of our friends had availed of this facility during 1995 Silver Jubilee reunion also. (I had come to Pilani by bus from Delhi & gone to Jaipur from Pilani by bus in 1995 reunion). However, this arrangement would be confined to a very few of our friends with prior intimation/planning.

(3) It is possible some of our friends might wish to extend the trip by a couple of days for site seeing at Jaipur (& perhaps Ajmer also). They can decide to reach Jaipur a couple of days before the reunion programme or they can stay back at Jaipur for next couple of days, after the reunion programme. Our friend Vinod Pabuwal is likely to help them plan their programme (of course at a reasonable cost). I wish there could be similar arrangement at Delhi also. (Do we have any Vinod Pabuwal at Delhi right now ?)

(4) We had contributed generously for a corpus for B.I.T.S. in 1995 & 2009. Some of our friends (e.g. those coming to Pilani for the first time) have expressed a desire to contribute for the Corpus again. They are welcome. However, there need not be any binding for everybody to contribute any suggested/minimum contribution (e.g. during 1995 reunion). There can be two options for those coming forward to contribute. Either they be asked to remit the individual amount of contribution directly to B.I.T.S. (& obtain a receipt for I.T. rebate) or they be asked to deposit their individual contribution with Bhagchand's office at Baroda (as in the past) so that the entire amount (provided it is a substantial amount) be passed on to B.I.T.S. by our batch jointly. We had announced the contributor's names & the amount of contribution during 1995 reunion (two of our friends had contributed Rs.1.00 lac each). However, we were wise enough to handover the cheques/drafts to B.I.T.S. without announcing the contributors' names & amount of each contribution in 2009. This practice should be followed this time also.

We used to achieve satisfaction by contributing generously for the corpus in the past. However, the B.I.T.S. is now getting huge amounts from various sources so that our future contributions would always look small.

(5) I agree one night at Pilani might not be sufficient for some of our friends. I have suggested two nights' stay at Mandawa & one night at Pilani for following reasons :

(i) We must realise that most of us have been to Pilani during one or both the earlier reunions (in 1995 & 2009). The trip to Pilani is being organised mainly for our friends who have not been to Pilani after leaving B.I.T.S. in 1971 (some of other friends are also keen to visit Pilani this time too). One night's stay at Pilani should therefore be acceptable to everybody.

(ii) The stay at Mandawa should be for two nights because our friends are likely to enjoy themselves better if we are on our own, without B.I.T.S. controlled atmosphere. (We had a good time together at Hyderrabad in 2014 & better time in Goa In 2015). Most of us would be free to enjoy cocktails & music programmes at Mandawa. There could be some restrictions at Pilani (e.g. we had to have drinks on road from a car - converted into a mobile bar - parked infront of guest house in 1995 reunion & in our individual rooms in 2009 reunion). The over-all free & informal atmosphere at Mandawa would be more convenient & suitable for us. The atmosphere would become partly formal at B.I.T.S.

(iii) Golden Jubilee Reunion might be a big event for us. However, the B.I.T.S. authorities have been making arrangements for (1) Silver Jubilee Reunion (2) Golden Jubilee Reunion & (3) other out of turn reunions for various batches (like ours in 2009) every year. For them, such reunions have now become a routine.

(iv) The B.I.T.S. authorities had given us standing ovation during 1995 Silver Jubilee Reunion. We spent an entire evening at Central Auditorium starting with individual (branch-wise) introductions, speeches (by our friends, spouses & B.I.T.S. Director), B.I.T.S. students' musical programme & our own musical programme/performances by our families. The programme went on for nearly four hours. However, the B.I.T.S. authorities' response during our 2009 reunion was lukewarm. Despite our huge contribution for corpus, they were unable to offer us even two hours' time in the Central Auditorium. We were taken aback. It was an embarrasing situation for us. Bhagchand was somehow able to save the situation. It is possible the Audi. Programme at Pilani now might not be feasible. Further, even if it occurs, intros may be an issue as the current student population may not have much interest. Our friends who are visiting Pilani for the first time after 1971 would naturally want to revive their memories by participating in a brief programme in the Audi. This all depends on J.P. Soni's efforts & feedback. However, we should not have any extra-ordinary expectations from B.I.T.S. this time.

(v) Two nights' stay at Pilani would lenghthen the trip to full four days, making it un-viable for some of us.

My suggestions seem to be lenghthy, but you may find some of them useful.
